I am an accountant turned artist. I was talking to a photographer colleague the other day about our plans for the future, and she said something that was interesting:

Don’t do that. Just say you’re a photographer. It’s like you don’t know who you are. You are straddling the fence.

In thinking about this conversation in the days that followed, I decided that no, that is precisely correct. I am an accountant turned artist. I am interested in the intersection between these two worlds.

How did this transformation start? What difficulties did I face in evolving from one to the other, especially from one who had no background in visual art? How would someone else navigate this transition? Could I help or inspire others to make this change? I am proof that it could be done. Hence, this newsletter.

In future posts, I will write about my views on photography, the art-making process, sequential art, mythology, and other artists’ work–things I found inspiring that sparked my interest in art. I will write from a dual perspective, combining the analytical eye of an accountant of 22 years with the metaphorical perspective of an emerging artist.
